Past Research experience
The research work was in the area of protein biochemistry. Isolation, purification and enrichment of proteins (enzymes) mainly from snake venoms using gel electrophoresis and chromatographic techniques was carried out. The aim was to use these purified protein fractions potentially in therapeutics, diagnostic and biological research.
Biochemical characterization of the purified protein fractions from the snake venoms was carried out. Determination of various kinetic constants for the purified enzymes was done.
The effects of purified venom fractions In vivo and In vitro were studied. The effects of different crude venoms and their purified protein fractions on intracellular metabolism were studied in cultured human skin fibroblasts.
The effects of crude venom and its purified protein fractions on the respiratory chain function of cultured human skin fibroblasts were investigated.
The effects of crude venom and its purified protein fractions on carbohydrate metabolism of rats were investigated.
The effects of crude venom and its purified protein fractions on blood clotting cascade were also studied.
